STEAM Education

This year, the Newman STEM program expanded to include Apprenticeships in Health Sciences and Law.  Students who have elected to pursue these lines of study were able to attend general medical clinics and the offices of criminal defense lawyers and participate in meaningful ways.  Such real world experience often proves crucial to students as they prepare to make college and career decisions.  The Health Sciences and Legal programs also offered month-long research projects which included DNA Extraction, Gel Electrophoresis and Ballistic Gelatin Experimentation.  All collected data was presented at Newman’s STEM Night during which the students defended the methodologies and findings of their projects to judges, teachers, administration and parents.  As we move into the summer, we look to expand the STEM program to include Outdoor Learning, Veterinary Medicine, Forensics and Livestock Sciences.
