At Newman International Academy, a premier charter school district serving the Dallas/Fort Worth area, our Science Department is committed to cultivating a lifelong passion for discovery and innovation. With a strong emphasis on hands-on, experiential learning, we provide students from diverse backgrounds with meaningful opportunities to explore science in ways that are engaging, practical, and inspiring.
From Elementary through High School, our students actively participate in experimental science and engineering projects, culminating each year in our highly anticipated STEM Fair. This event showcases student ingenuity and fosters a spirit of scientific inquiry, teamwork, and presentation skills. It serves as a stepping-stone for many of our learners who aspire to become doctors, engineers, nurses, scientists, and more.
Our High School juniors regularly participate in the prestigious NASA High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) program, an immersive, year-long experience that introduces students to the fields of space exploration and engineering. In addition, our annual Summer Space Camps offer students an extraordinary opportunity to build and launch model rockets equipped with payloads and parachutes. These camps also include inspiring interactions with astronauts and officials from the U.S. Space Force, sparking curiosity and ambition among aspiring space scientists.
Academic excellence in science is further reinforced through advanced courses like Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology, which prepare our students for success in pre-medical and healthcare pathways. Beginning in 6th grade, students benefit from our unique use of Physcira's "Physics in a Box" kits - hands-on modules in mechanics, optics, and electricity - designed to strengthen both scientific understanding and mathematical reasoning.
Our curriculum is grounded in trusted and innovative educational resources, including STEMscopes, Kesler Science, McGraw-Hill, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. These are further enhanced by immersive digital tools such as IXL and zSpace, which integrate AR/VR technology to bring complex scientific concepts to life in an interactive, engaging way.
At Newman International Academy, science is more than a subject - it's a journey of exploration that empowers students to unlock their full potential and become the innovators, leaders, and problem-solvers of tomorrow.
